      Caring for Water: A Call to Protect God’s Gift to Creation Abuja, Nigeria — September 15, 2026: As part of the 2026 Season of Creation, the Laudato Si’ Movement Nigeria** and **PACTPAN Nigeria Chapter today collaborated with Radio Maria Nigeria 91.3 FM Abuja** for an engaging discussion on the theme “Living Water,” drawn from Ezekiel 47:1–12, with a focus on “Tackling Water Challenges as a Means of Promoting a Flourishing Ecosystem.” The discussion highlighted the importance of the Season of Creation as a time for Christians and people of goodwill to deepen their commitment to caring for our common home. The speakers explored the vital role water plays in sustaining human life, agriculture, ecosystems, communities and society. Attention was also drawn to the realities of water challenges in Nigeria, including inadequate access to safe and portable drinking water, pollution, poor sanitation, flooding, drought and the mismanagement of water resources. The discussion emphasized the need for practical solutions, including improved water infrastructure, proper waste disposal, protection of water sources, responsible water management and stronger community participation. Individuals were encouraged to conserve water in their daily lives by avoiding wastage, fixing leaking taps and pipes, reusing water where appropriate, keeping water sources clean and promoting good hygiene and sanitation practices. The programme further stressed that government, NGOs, faith-based organizations and communities all have important roles to play in ensuring access to safe water, educating citizens, protecting the environment and promoting policies and initiatives that support sustainable water management. Key Message to the Audience: Water is life, and caring for water is caring for people, nature and our common home. Every drop matters. Let us stop wasting water, protect our water sources, keep our environment clean and use water responsibly.
